Around 35 people had to leave their homes in Islington this morning due to a fire that broke out in a three-storey maisonette. The fire started at 4:14 am in a maisonette that covered the ground to the second floors of a ten-storey building on Bakers Field.
Unfortunately, half of the ground and first floors, as well as part of the second floor, were damaged by the fire. However, there were no injuries reported as residents were quickly evacuated and taken to a nearby rest center.
Firefighters from various stations including Kentish Town, Holloway, and Islington responded to the incident after receiving eight emergency calls. Thanks to their efforts, the fire was under control by 5:39 am. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade highlighted the importance of the FSG app, which helps Control Officers manage incidents where multiple people within a building are in need of lifesaving advice. This app enables quick and accurate exchange of information between Control Officers and firefighters at the scene to ensure the safety advice given is up to date.
In total, eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters were involved in extinguishing the fire at the residential block of flats on Bakers Field. The London Fire Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received numerous calls about the fire and mobilized crews promptly to the scene.
Incidents like these serve as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the quick response of emergency services. It is crucial for residents to have an evacuation plan in place and to follow the advice of firefighters during such emergencies. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but investigations will help determine what led to this unfortunate event.
