World-renowned fashion illustrator Hayden Williams recently paid a visit to Barking and Dagenham College, where he once was a student a decade ago.
During his visit, the 33-year-old artist had the opportunity to meet with current students and teachers. He also took part in recording a podcast with them, discussing his journey in learning the craft of fashion illustration.
Reflecting on his time at the college, Hayden shared that it was where he first delved into the world of fashion. He learned essential skills such as sewing and pattern cutting, which laid the foundation for his successful career.
Despite facing challenges during his course, Hayden credits his tutor for pushing him to improve in areas where he lacked confidence. This guidance ultimately equipped him with the necessary skills to pursue a career in the fashion industry upon graduation.
One of the college lecturers, Kayla Hassan, expressed her admiration for Hayden, revealing that she had been a fan of his work for years. She was surprised to learn that he was once a student at the same college where she now teaches.
Hayden, who boasts over one million Instagram followers, has established himself as a prominent figure in the world of fashion illustration. His journey began at a young age, drawing inspiration from Disney characters and Barbie dolls while growing up in Loughton.
After enrolling in a BTEC fashion design course at the Rush Green campus in 2008, Hayden gained recognition when his illustration of singer Rihanna caught the attention of the pop star on Twitter. Since then, his work has garnered praise from icons such as Oprah and Beyonce, and he has collaborated with industry giants like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
His unique sketches have come to life as real outfits worn by celebrities like Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Jourdan Dunn on various platforms, including stage performances and television appearances.
Looking ahead, Hayden is scheduled to return to the college in February as a guest at its annual skills show. In the meantime, he is working on confidential designs for well-known celebrities to be unveiled for Halloween.
