A man from Dartford named Steven Franklin has been sentenced to 26 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two children over a period of more than three decades. The 71-year-old was convicted of 10 sexual offenses, including five counts of rape, at Woolwich Crown Court.

The investigation into Franklin’s crimes began when Kent Police received allegations of sustained sexual abuse against a child. As the investigation progressed, it was discovered that there was a second victim who had been targeted by Franklin in the 1970s. It was revealed that this child had endured abuse at the hands of Franklin for over a decade.

In August 2023, Franklin was charged with multiple sexual offenses and pleaded not guilty to all counts at Woolwich Crown Court. However, following a trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to 26 years in prison. He will have to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Detective Constable James McClelland, who worked on the case, expressed his disgust at Franklin’s actions, stating that he had taken advantage of two vulnerable children for his own selfish gratification. McClelland praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and hoped that Franklin’s long jail term would bring them some comfort.

Kent Police emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for victims of sexual crimes, regardless of when the offenses occurred. They encouraged all victims to report such crimes with the confidence that the authorities will take action against the perpetrators.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators of sexual abuse accountable for their actions, no matter how much time has passed. The bravery of the victims in speaking out against Franklin’s abhorrent behavior has led to a significant victory for justice and serves as a beacon of hope for other survivors of abuse.
