My first visit to Mildreds in Victoria was a delightful experience. Despite being a part of a vegan restaurant chain, Mildreds doesn’t feel like a chain at all. It exudes a cozy, family-like atmosphere across its various locations in London.

After a brief walk from Victoria station, I arrived at the restaurant to find a welcoming ambiance with fairy lights and unique Picasso-style artwork adorning the walls and lampshades. As a vegetarian, I was eager to explore their vegan menu, while my meat-eating companion was curious to see what the restaurant had to offer.

We decided to try the new £25 per person taster menu, curated by the talented chef Sarah Wasserman, which showcases a diverse range of globally inspired dishes. From Middle Eastern to South East Asian and Spanish cuisines, the menu offers an eclectic mix of flavors that truly represent Mildreds’ food philosophy.

The meal started on a high note with delicious arancini served with smoky chipotle ketchup, followed by a standout dish of salsa macha hummus with candied pine nuts and pumpkin seeds. The patatas bravas and kimchi gyoza were equally impressive, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to innovative and flavorful vegan dishes.

One of the main highlights of the meal was the kiri hodi, a Sri Lankan coconut curry with sweet potato and toasted cashews, accompanied by pickles and mint coriander chutney. While a few dishes like the cucumber herb salad and beetroot dip were less memorable, the overall dining experience was delightful and satisfying.

To complement the meal, we indulged in Mildreds’ desserts, including a saffron crème brûlée and sticky toffee pudding with burnt pineapple. Both desserts offered unique twists on classic dishes, showcasing the chef’s creativity and skill in vegan cooking.

The restaurant’s focus on natural flavors and creative dishes makes it a great dining option for vegans and non-vegans alike. The affordable pricing, including a selection of desserts and drinks, adds to the overall value of the dining experience at Mildreds.

As Mildreds continues to innovate and expand, with a new Christmas menu and flagship branches in Soho, it remains a pioneer in London’s plant-based dining scene. Whether you’re a vegan or simply looking to explore new flavors, Mildreds offers a culinary experience that is sure to impress.

With a diverse menu available at multiple locations across London, Mildreds’ commitment to creating delicious vegan dishes is evident in every bite. Whether you’re a seasoned vegan or a carnivore looking to try something new, Mildreds is definitely worth a visit.
