Commuter Chaos: C2C Engineering Works Disrupt Travel Plans

Commuters in east London and south Essex are in for a challenging week as engineering works on the c2c network are set to cause disruptions across various routes. From diversions to station omissions, passengers are advised to plan ahead and consider alternative travel options to avoid delays and inconveniences.

Weekday Disruptions (September 30 – October 3)

Starting from Monday, September 30th to Thursday, October 3rd, engineering works between Fenchurch Street and Barking/Upminster will lead to service diversions. Trains will be rerouted to Liverpool Street, with stops at Stratford but skipping Limehouse and West Ham. This adjustment will impact stations such as Fenchurch Street, Barking, Limehouse, and West Ham.

Additionally, from 10:45 pm onwards, services will be diverted between Barking and Pitsea via an alternative route, bypassing stops at Upminster, West Horndon, Laindon, and Basildon. However, shuttle train services will operate between Upminster and Pitsea via Laindon to facilitate passenger movement.

Passengers are encouraged to utilize ticket acceptance on alternative routes, including District line services between Tower Hill-West Ham-Barking, Jubilee line services between Stratford and West Ham, and DLR services between Tower Gateway-Limehouse-West Ham/Stratford.

Furthermore, the Ockendon c2c line will also be impacted by evening works starting at 8:40 pm. Services between Upminster, Ockendon, Chafford Hundred, and Grays will run as shuttles, prompting affected passengers to switch trains at Upminster or Grays for journeys towards London and Southend.

Sunday Service Adjustments (October 6)

The disruptions continue into Sunday, with engineering works between Basildon and Leigh-on-Sea altering service routes. Trains will commence and terminate at Basildon, with services to Liverpool Street diverted to Fenchurch Street and including a stop at West Ham but excluding Stratford. Stations affected by these changes include Chalkwell, Westcliff, Southend Central, Southend East, Thorpe Bay, and Shoeburyness.

Passengers facing these disruptions have the option of utilizing rail replacement services operating between Basildon and Leigh-on-Sea. Additionally, a shuttle service will be available between Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness to assist with passenger transportation.

Simultaneously, engineering works between Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea will impact services, prompting trains to start and finish at Grays. Commuters requiring access to Tilbury Town, East Tilbury, and Stanford-le-Hope are advised to use Rainham line services during this period.

Moreover, more engineering works between Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea will result in services extending to Stanford-le-Hope and including additional stops at Tilbury Town and East Tilbury. Passengers needing to reach stations towards Southend are recommended to utilize replacement services between Stanford-le-Hope and Leigh-on-Sea. A train shuttle will operate between Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness to cater to passenger needs.

Throughout the disruptions, c2c is working diligently to minimize inconveniences for commuters. By planning ahead, staying informed, and utilizing alternative travel options, passengers can navigate the week-long engineering works with greater ease and efficiency.
