A woman and a baby, along with more than 30 other individuals, managed to escape a massive fire at a block of flats in Walthamstow. The incident took place on Collendale Road at around 1:35 pm yesterday, with fifteen fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters working tirelessly to control the blaze. The fire primarily affected two flats on the fifth and sixth floors, as well as the roof of the building. As a result of the fire, around 36 people were forced to evacuate the premises.
Treatment was provided to the woman and baby at the scene by the London Ambulance Service before they were discharged. Fire crews from various stations including Walthamstow, Tottenham, and Hornsey were present to assist in extinguishing the flames. The situation was brought under control just before 4:30 pm, and an investigation into the cause of the fire has been initiated. The London Fire Brigade spokesperson mentioned the use of two 32-metre turntable ladders and drone technology to combat the fire effectively.
